Welcome to another edition of IntelePeer’s Tech Tuesday series. This week Harini Kidambi, Senior Product Manager, provides a great perspective from her career experience and solid advice for working in the Tech Industry.

1. How did you end up in the Tech Industry?

I have been in the Tech Industry since my first job. Though I come from a non-technical background, my daily interactions were with product leaders and engineers. I was attracted to the innovation and dynamism.

I networked to understand more about the different tech roles and upskilled myself simultaneously. When the opportunity presented itself, I was ready for the career pivot.

2. What AI or machine learning capabilities are you most looking forward to?

It is exciting to note the advancements AI has brought about in different fields – especially in natural disaster management, healthcare, and energy resilience.

3. What was the most challenging aspect of your career and how did you overcome it?

Technology space is fast evolving. It is challenging for me, as someone coming from a non-tech background. I am a firm believer of the quote, “Be humble, be teachable” – Maurya Trivedi.

I try to keep up with new concepts by reading blogs, books, taking up some online courses, or asking experts from my network. And I have a mentor I reach out to if I need help.

I sometimes struggle at balancing work and home, so I keep the communication channel open with my manager and sought help.

4. Any advice for women who want to join the Tech Industry?

Go in with an open mind, be curious to learn and try out new things, and find a mentor for guidance. If you are in a place where you are not taken seriously, consider a different challenge. There are plenty of opportunities offered in the Tech Industry.

5. What advice would you give your younger self who is just starting in the workforce?

Don’t be too hard on yourself and run behind perfectionism. Focus on what you can control and don’t be shy to ask what you want.

Knowledge is power.
